II Chronicles 36

II Chronicles 36

36:1 And the people of the land took Joachaz the son of Josias, and anointed him, and made him king over Jerusalem in the room of his father.

36:2 Joachaz [was] twenty-three years old when he began to reign, and he reigned three months in Jerusalem: and his mother's name was Amital, daughter of Jeremias of Lobna. And he did that which was evil in the sight of Yehovah, according to all that his fathers had done. AndPharaoh Nechao bound him in Deblatha in the land of Aemath, that he might not reign in Jerusalem.

36:3 And the king brought him over to Egypt; and imposed a tribute on the land, a hundred talents of silver and a talent of gold.

36:4 AndPharaoh Nechao made Eliakim the son of Josias king over Judah in the room of his father Josias, and changed his name [to] Joakim. AndPharaoh Nechao took his brother Joachaz and brought him into Egypt, and he died there: but [he] had given the silver and gold toPharaoh. At that time the land began to be taxed to give the money at the command fPharaoh; and every one as he could borrowed the silver and the gold of the people of the land, to give toPharaoh Nechao.

36:5 Joachim was twenty-five years old when he began to reign, and he reigned eleven years in Jerusalem: and his mother's name [was] Zechora, daughter of Nerias of Rama. And he did that which was evil in the sight of Yehovah, according to all that his fathers did. In his days came Nabuchodonosor king of Babylon into the land, and he served him three years, and [then] revolted from him. And Yehovah sent against them the Chaldeans, and plundering parties of Syrians, and plundering parties of the Moabites, and of the children of Ammon, and of Samaria; but after this they departed, according to the word of Yehovah by the hand of his servants the prophets. Nevertheless the wrath of Yehovah was upon Judah, so that they should be removed from his presence, because of the sins of Manasses in all that he did, and for the innocent blood which Joakim shed, for he had filled Jerusalem with innocent blood; yet Yehovah would not utterly destroy them.

36:6 And Nabuchodonosor king of Babylon came up against him, and bound him with brazen fetters, and carried him away to Babylon.

36:7 And he carried away a part of the vessels of the house of Yehovah to Babylon, and put them in his temple in Babylon.

36:8 And the rest of the acts of Joakim, and all that he did, behold, [are] not these things written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah? And Joakim slept with his fathers, and was buried with his fathers in Ganozae: and Jechonias his son reigned in his stead.

36:9 Jechonias [was] eight years old when he began to reign, and he reigned three months and ten days in Jerusalem, and did that which was evil in the sight of Yehovah.

36:10 And at the turn of the year, king Nabuchodonosor sent, and brought him to Babylon, with the precious vessels of the house of Yehovah, and made Sedekias his father's brother king over Judah and Jerusalem.

36:11 Sedekias [was] twenty-one years old when he began to reign, and be reigned eleven years in Jerusalem.

36:12 And he did that which was evil in the sight of Yehovah his Elohim: he was not ashamed before the prophet Jeremias, nor because of the word of the Lord;

36:13 in that he rebelled against king Nabuchodonosor, which he adjured him by Elohim [not to do]: but he stiffened his neck, and hardened his heart, so as not to return to Yehovah Elohim of Israel.

36:14 And all the great men of Judah, and the priests, and the people of the land transgressed abundantly in the abominations of the heathen, and polluted the house of Yehovah which [was] in Jerusalem.

36:15 And Yehovah Elohim of their fathers sent by the hand of his prophets; rising early and sending his messengers, for he spared his people, and his sanctuary.

36:16 Nevertheless they sneered at his messengers, and set at nought his words, and mocked his prophets, until the wrath of Yehovah rose up against his people, till there was no remedy.

36:17 And he brought against them the king of the Chaldeans, and slew their young men with the sword in the house of his sanctuary, and did not spare Sedekias, and had no mercy upon their virgins, and they led away their old men: he delivered all things into their hands.

36:18 And all the vessels of the house of Elohim, the great and the small, and the treasures of the house of Yehovah, and all the treasures of the king and the great men; he brought all to Babylon.

36:19 And he burnt the house of Yehovah, and broke down the wall of Jerusalem, and burnt its palaces with fire, and [utterly destroyed] every beautiful vessel.

36:20 And he carried away the remnant to Babylon; and they were servants to him and to his sons until [the establishment of] the kingdom of the Medes.

36:21 That the word of Yehovah by the mouth of Jeremias might be fulfilled, until the land should enjoy its sabbaths in resting [and] sabbath keeping all the days of its desolation, till the accomplishment of seventy years.

36:22 In the first year of Cyrus king of the Persians, after the fulfillment of the word of he Lord by the mouth of Jeremias, Yehovah stirred up the spirit of Cyrus king of the Persians, and told him to make proclamation in writing throughout all his kingdom, saying,

36:23 Thus says Cyrus king of the Persians to all the kingdoms of the earth, Yehovah Elohim of heaven has given me [power], and he has commanded me to build a house to him in Jerusalem, in Judea. Who [is there] of you of all his people? his Elohim shall be with him, and let him go up.

36:1 Then the people of the land took Jehoahaz the son of Josiah, and made him king in his father's stead in Jerusalem.

36:2 Jehoahaz was twenty and three years old when he began to reign, and he reigned three months in Jerusalem.

36:3 And the king of Egypt put him down at Jerusalem, and condemned the land in an hundred talents of silver and a talent of gold.

36:4 And the king of Egypt made Eliakim his brother king over Judah and Jerusalem, and turned his name to Jehoiakim. And Necho took Jehoahaz his brother, and carried him to Egypt.

36:5 Jehoiakim was twenty and five years old when he began to reign, and he reigned eleven years in Jerusalem: and he did that which was evil in the sight of Yehovah his Elohim.

36:6 Against him came up Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, and bound him in fetters, to carry him to Babylon.

36:7 Nebuchadnezzar also carried of the vessels of the house of Yehovah to Babylon, and put them in his temple at Babylon.

36:8 Now the rest of the acts of Jehoiakim, and his abominations which he did, and that which was found in him, behold, they are written in the book of the kings of Israel and Judah: and Jehoiachin his son reigned in his stead.

36:9 Jehoiachin was eight years old when he began to reign, and he reigned three months and ten days in Jerusalem: and he did that which was evil in the sight of Yehovah.

36:10 And when the year was expired, king Nebuchadnezzar sent, and brought him to Babylon, with the goodly vessels of the house of Yehovah, and made Zedekiah his brother king over Judah and Jerusalem.

36:11 Zedekiah was one and twenty years old when he began to reign, and reigned eleven years in Jerusalem.

36:12 And he did that which was evil in the sight of Yehovah his Elohim, and humbled not himself before Jeremiah the prophet speaking from the mouth of Yehovah.

36:13 And he also rebelled against king Nebuchadnezzar, who had made him swear by Elohim: but he stiffened his neck, and hardened his heart from turning unto Yehovah Elohim of Israel.

36:14 Moreover all the chief of the priests, and the people, transgressed very much after all the abominations of the heathen; and polluted the house of Yehovah which he had hallowed in Jerusalem.

36:15 And Yehovah Elohim of their fathers sent to them by his messengers, rising up betimes, and sending; because he had compassion on his people, and on his dwelling place:

36:16 But they mocked the messengers of Elohim, and despised his words, and misused his prophets, until the wrath of Yehovah arose against his people, till there was no remedy.

36:17 Therefore he brought upon them the king of the Chaldees, who slew their young men with the sword in the house of their sanctuary, and had no compassion upon young man or maiden, old man, or him that stooped for age: he gave them all into his hand.

36:18 And all the vessels of the house of Elohim, great and small, and the treasures of the house of Yehovah, and the treasures of the king, and of his princes; all these he brought to Babylon.

36:19 And they burnt the house of Elohim, and brake down the wall of Jerusalem, and burnt all the palaces thereof with fire, and destroyed all the goodly vessels thereof.

36:20 And them that had escaped from the sword carried he away to Babylon; where they were servants to him and his sons until the reign of the kingdom of Persia:

36:21 To fulfil the word of Yehovah by the mouth of Jeremiah, until the land had enjoyed her sabbaths: for as long as she lay desolate she kept sabbath, to fulfil threescore and ten years.

36:22 Now in the first year of Cyrus king of Persia, that the word of the Yehovah spoken by the mouth of Jeremiah might be accomplished, Yehovah stirred up the spirit of Cyrus king of Persia, that he made a proclamation throughout all his kingdom, and put it also in writing, saying,

36:23 Thus saith Cyrus king of Persia, All the kingdoms of the earth hath Yehovah Elohim of heaven given me; and he hath charged me to build him an house in Jerusalem, which is in Judah. Who is there among you of all his people? Yehovah his Elohim be with him, and let him go up.
