IV Kings (II Kings) 20

IV Kings (II Kings) 20

20:1 In those days was Ezekias sick [even] to death. And the prophet Esaias the son of Amos came in to him, and said to him, Thus saith Yehovah, Give charge to thy household; [for] thou shalt die, and not live.

20:2 And Ezekias turned to the wall, and prayed to Yehovah, saying,

20:3 Lord, remember, I pray thee, how I have walked before thee in truth and with a perfect heart, and have done that which is good in thine eyes. And Ezekias wept with a great weeping.

20:4 And Esaias was in the middle court, and the word of Yehovah came to him, saying,

20:5 Turn back, and thou shalt say to Ezekias the ruler of my people, Thus saith Yehovah Elohim of thy father David, I have heard thy prayer, I have seen thy tears: behold, I will heal thee: on the third day thou shalt go up to the house of Yehovah.

20:6 And I will add to thy days fifteen years; and I will deliver thee and this city out of the hand of the king of the Assyrians, and I will defend this city for my own sake, and for my servant's David sake.

20:7 And he said, Let them take a cake of figs, and lay it upon the ulcer, and he shall be well.

20:8 And Ezekias said to Esaias, What [is] the sign that Yehovah will heal me, and I shall go up to the house of Yehovah on the third day?

20:9 And Esaias said, This [is] the sign from Yehovah, that Yehovah will perform the word which he has spoken, the shadow [of the dial] shall advance ten degrees: [or] if it should go back ten degrees [this would also be the sign].

20:10 And Ezekias said, [It is] a light thing for the shadow to go down ten degrees: nay, but let the shadow return ten degrees backward on the dial.

20:11 And Esaias the prophet cried to Yehovah: and the shadow returned back ten degrees on the dial.

20:12 At that time Marodach Baladan, son of Baladan king of Babylon, sent letters and a present to Ezekias, because he had heard that Ezekias was sick.

20:13 And Ezekias rejoiced at them, and shewed all the house of his spices, the silver and the gold, the spices, and the fine oil, and the armory, and all that was found in his treasures: there was nothing which Ezekias did not shew them in his house, and in all his dominion.

20:14 And Esaias the prophet went in to king Ezekias, and said to him, What said these men? and whence came they to thee? And Ezekias said, they came to me from a distant land, [even] from Babylon.

20:15 And he said, What saw they in thy house? And he said, They saw all things that [are] in my house: there was nothing in my house which I shewed not to them; yea, all that was in my treasures also.

20:16 And Esaias said to Ezekias, Hear the word of Yehovah:

20:17 Behold, the days come, that all things that are in thy house shall be taken, and all that thy fathers have treasured up until this day, to Babylon; and there shall not fail a word, which Yehovah has spoken.

20:18 And as for thy sons which shall come forth of thee, which thou shalt beget, [the enemy] shall take them, and they shall be eunuchs in the house of the king of Babylon.

20:19 And Ezekias said to Esaias, Good [is] the word of Yehovah which he has spoken: [only] let there be peace in my days.

20:20 And the rest of the acts of Ezekias, and all his might, and all that he made, the fountain and the aqueduct, and [how] he brought water into the city, [are] not these things written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah?

20:21 And Ezekias slept with his fathers: and Manasses his son reigned in his stead.

20:1 In those days was Hezekiah sick unto death. And the prophet Isaiah the son of Amoz came to him, and said unto him, Thus saith Yehovah, Set thine house in order; for thou shalt die, and not live.

20:2 Then he turned his face to the wall, and prayed unto Yehovah, saying,

20:3 I beseech thee, O Yehovah, remember now how I have walked before thee in truth and with a perfect heart, and have done that which is good in thy sight. And Hezekiah wept sore.

20:4 And it came to pass, afore Isaiah was gone out into the middle court, that the word of Yehovah came to him, saying,

20:5 Turn again, and tell Hezekiah the captain of my people, Thus saith the Yehovah, the Elohim of David thy father, I have heard thy prayer, I have seen thy tears: behold, I will heal thee: on the third day thou shalt go up unto the house of Yehovah.

20:6 And I will add unto thy days fifteen years; and I will deliver thee and this city out of the hand of the king of Assyria; and I will defend this city for mine own sake, and for my servant David's sake.

20:7 And Isaiah said, Take a lump of figs. And they took and laid it on the boil, and he recovered.

20:8 And Hezekiah said unto Isaiah, What shall be the sign that Yehovah will heal me, and that I shall go up into the house of Yehovah the third day?

20:9 And Isaiah said, This sign shalt thou have of Yehovah, that Yehovah will do the thing that he hath spoken: shall the shadow go forward ten degrees, or go back ten degrees?

20:10 And Hezekiah answered, It is a light thing for the shadow to go down ten degrees: nay, but let the shadow return backward ten degrees.

20:11 And Isaiah the prophet cried unto Yehovah: and he brought the shadow ten degrees backward, by which it had gone down in the dial of Ahaz.

20:12 At that time Berodachbaladan, the son of Baladan, king of Babylon, sent letters and a present unto Hezekiah: for he had heard that Hezekiah had been sick.

20:13 And Hezekiah hearkened unto them, and showed them all the house of his precious things, the silver, and the gold, and the spices, and the precious ointment, and all the house of his armor, and all that was found in his treasures: there was nothing in his house, nor in all his dominion, that Hezekiah showed them not.

20:14 Then came Isaiah the prophet unto king Hezekiah, and said unto him, What said these men? and from whence came they unto thee? And Hezekiah said, They are come from a far country, even from Babylon.

20:15 And he said, What have they seen in thine house? And Hezekiah answered, All the things that are in mine house have they seen: there is nothing among my treasures that I have not showed them.

20:16 And Isaiah said unto Hezekiah, Hear the word of Yehovah.

20:17 Behold, the days come, that all that is in thine house, and that which thy fathers have laid up in store unto this day, shall be carried into Babylon: nothing shall be left, saith Yehovah.

20:18 And of thy sons that shall issue from thee, which thou shalt beget, shall they take away; and they shall be eunuchs in the palace of the king of Babylon.

20:19 Then said Hezekiah unto Isaiah, Good is the word of Yehovah which thou hast spoken. And he said, Is it not good, if peace and truth be in my days?

20:20 And the rest of the acts of Hezekiah, and all his might, and how he made a pool, and a conduit, and brought water into the city, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah?

20:21 And Hezekiah slept with his fathers: and Manasseh his son reigned in his stead.
