Aggaeus (Haggai) 2

Aggaeus (Haggai) 2

2:1 In the seventh month, on the twenty-first [day] of the month, Yehovah spoke by Aggaeus the prophet, saying,

2:2 Speak now to Zorobabel the son of Salathiel, of the tribe of Judah, and to Yehoshua the son of Josedec, the high priest, and to all the remnant of the people, saying,

2: Who [is there] of you that saw this house in her former glory? and how do ye now look upon it, as it were nothing before your eyes?

2:4 Yet now be strong, O Zorobabel, saith Yehovah; and strengthen thyself, O Yehoshua the high priest, the son of Josedec; and let all the people of the land strengthen themselves, saith Yehovah, and work, for I am with you, saith Yehovah Almighty;

2:5 and my Spirit remains in the midst of you; be of good courage.

2:6 For thus saith Yehovah Almighty; Yet once I will shake the heaven, and the earth, and the sea, and the dry [land];

2:7 and I will shake all nations, and the choice [portions] of all the nations shall come: and I will fill this house with glory, saith Yehovah Almighty.

2:8 Mine is the silver, and mine the gold, saith Yehovah Almighty.

2:9 For the glory of this house shall be great, the latter more than the former, saith Yehovah Almighty: and in this place will I give peace, saith Yehovah Almighty, even peace of soul for a possession to every one that builds, to raise up this temple.

2:10 On the four and twentieth [day] of the ninth month, in the second year of Darius, the word of Yehovah came to Aggaeus the prophet, saying,

2:11 Thus saith Yehovah Almighty; Inquire now of the priest [concerning] the law, saying,

2:12 If a man should take holy flesh in the skirt of his garment, and the skirt of his garment should touch bread, or pottage, or wine, or oil, or any meat, shall it be holy? And the priests answered and said, No.

2:13 And Aggaeus said, If a defiled person who is unclean by reason of a dead body, touch any of these, shall it be defiled? And the priests answered and said, It shall be defiled.

2:14 And Aggaeus answered and said, So is this people, and so is this nation before me, saith Yehovah; and so are all the works of their hands: and whosoever shall approach them, shall be defiled [[because of their early burdens: they shall be pained because of their toils; and ye have hated him that reproved in the gates]].

2:15 And now consider, I pray you, from this day and beforetime, before they laid a stone on a stone in the temple of Yehovah, what manner of men ye were.

2:16 When ye cast into the corn-bin twenty measures of barley, and there were [only] ten measures of barley: and ye went to the vat to draw out fifty measures, and there were [but] twenty.

2:17 I smote you with barrenness, and with blasting, and all the works of your hands with hail; yet ye returned not to me, saith Yehovah.

2:18 Set your hearts now [to think] from this day and upward, from the four and twentieth [day] of the ninth month, even from the day when the foundation of the temple of Yehovah was laid;

2:19 consider in your hearts, whether [this] shall be known on the corn-floor, and whether yet the vine, and the fig-tree, and the pomegranate, and the olive-trees that bear no fruit [are with you]: from this day will I bless [you].

2:20 And the word of Yehovah came the second time to Aggaeus the prophet, on the four and twentieth [day] of the month, saying,

2:21 Speak to Zorobabel the son of Salathiel, of the tribe of Judah, saying, I shake the heaven, and the earth, and the sea, and the dry [land];

2:22 and I will overthrow the thrones of kings, and I will destroy the power of the kings of the nations; and I will overthrow chariots and riders; and the horses and their riders shall come down, every one by the sword striving against his brother.

2:23 In that day, saith Yehovah Almighty, I will take thee, O Zorobabel, the son of Salathiel, my servant, saith Yehovah, and will make thee as a seal: for I have chosen thee, saith Yehovah Almighty.

2:1 In the seventh month, in the one and twentieth day of the month, came the word of Yehovah by the prophet Haggai, saying,

2:2 Speak now to Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and to Yehoshua the son of Josedech, the high priest, and to the residue of the people, saying,

2:3 Who is left among you that saw this house in her first glory? and how do ye see it now? is it not in your eyes in comparison of it as nothing?

2:4 Yet now be strong, O Zerubbabel, saith Yehovah; and be strong, O Yehoshua, son of Josedech, the high priest; and be strong, all ye people of the land, saith Yehovah, and work: for I am with you, saith Yehovah of hosts:

2:5 According to the word that I covenanted with you when ye came out of Egypt, so my spirit remaineth among you: fear ye not.

2:6 For thus saith Yehovah of hosts; Yet once, it is a little while, and I will shake the heavens, and the earth, and the sea, and the dry land;

2:7 And I will shake all nations, and the desire of all nations shall come: and I will fill this house with glory, saith Yehovah of hosts.

2:8 The silver is mine, and the gold is mine, saith Yehovah of hosts.

2:9 The glory of this latter house shall be greater than of the former, saith Yehovah of hosts: and in this place will I give peace, saith Yehovah of hosts.

2:10 In the four and twentieth day of the ninth month, in the second year of Darius, came the word of Yehovah by Haggai the prophet, saying,

2:11 Thus saith Yehovah of hosts; Ask now the priests concerning the law, saying,

2:12 If one bear holy flesh in the skirt of his garment, and with his skirt do touch bread, or pottage, or wine, or oil, or any meat, shall it be holy? And the priests answered and said, No.

2:13 Then said Haggai, If one that is unclean by a dead body touch any of these, shall it be unclean? And the priests answered and said, It shall be unclean.

2:14 Then answered Haggai, and said, So is this people, and so is this nation before me, saith Yehovah; and so is every work of their hands; and that which they offer there is unclean.

2:15 And now, I pray you, consider from this day and upward, from before a stone was laid upon a stone in the temple of Yehovah:

2:16 Since those days were, when one came to an heap of twenty measures, there were but ten: when one came to the pressfat for to draw out fifty vessels out of the press, there were but twenty.

2:17 I smote you with blasting and with mildew and with hail in all the labours of your hands; yet ye turned not to me, saith Yehovah.

2:18 Consider now from this day and upward, from the four and twentieth day of the ninth month, even from the day that the foundation of Yehovah's temple was laid, consider it.

2:19 Is the seed yet in the barn? yea, as yet the vine, and the fig tree, and the pomegranate, and the olive tree, hath not brought forth: from this day will I bless you.

2:20 And again the word of Yehovah came unto Haggai in the four and twentieth day of the month, saying,

2:21 Speak to Zerubbabel, governor of Judah, saying, I will shake the heavens and the earth;

2:22 And I will overthrow the throne of kingdoms, and I will destroy the strength of the kingdoms of the heathen; and I will overthrow the chariots, and those that ride in them; and the horses and their riders shall come down, every one by the sword of his brother.

2:23 In that day, saith Yehovah of hosts, will I take thee, O Zerubbabel, my servant, the son of Shealtiel, saith Yehovah, and will make thee as a signet: for I have chosen thee, saith Yehovah of hosts.
