Deuteronomy 3

Deuteronomy 3

3:1 And we turned and went by the way leading to Basan; and Og the king of Basan came out to meet us, he and all his people, to battle at Edraim.

3:2 And Yehovah said to me, Fear him not, for I have delivered him, and all his people, and all his land, into thy hands; and thou shalt do to him as thou didst to Seon king of the Amorites who dwelt in Esebon.

3:3 And Yehovah our Elohim delivered him into our hands, even Og the king of Basan, and all his people; and we smote him until we left none of his seed.

3:4 And we mastered all his cities at that time; there was not a city which we took not from them; sixty cities, all the country round about Argob, belonging to king Og in Basan:

3:5 all strong cities, lofty walls, gates and bars; besides the very many cities of the Pherezites.

3:6 We utterly destroyed [them] as we dealt with Seon the king of Esebon, so we utterly destroyed every city in order, and the women and the children,

3:7 and all the cattle; and we took for a prey to ourselves the spoil of the cities.

3:8 And we took at that time the land out of the hands of the two kings of the Amorites, who were beyond Jordan, [extending] from the brook of Arnon even unto Aermon.

3:9 The Phoenicians call Aermon Sanior, but the Amorite has called it Sanir.

3:10 All the cities of Misor, and all Galaad, and all Basan as far as Elcha and Edraim, cities of the kingdom of Og in Basan.

3:11 For only Og the king of Basan was left of the Raphain: behold, his bed [was] a bed of iron; behold, [it is] in the chief city of the children of Ammon; the length of it [is] nine cubits, and the breadth of it four cubits, according to the cubit of a man.

3:12 And we inherited that land at that time from Aroer, which s by the border of the torrent Arnon, and half the mount of Galaad; and I gave his cities to Ruben and to Gad.

3:13 And the rest of Galaad, and all Basan the kingdom of Og I gave to the half-tribe of Manasse, and all the country round about Argob, all that Basan; it shall be accounted the land of Raphain.

3:14 And Jair the son of Manasse took all the country round about Argob as far as the borders of Gargasi and Machathi: he called them by his name Basan Thavoth Jair until this day.

3:15 And to Machir I gave Galaad.

3:16 And to Ruben and to Gad I gave [the land] under Galaad as far as the brook of Arnon, the border between the brook and as far as Jaboc; the brook [is] the border to the children Amman.

3:17 And Araba and Jordan [are] the boundary of Machanareth, even to the sea of Araba, the salt sea under Asedoth Phasga eastward.

3:18 And I charged you at that time, saying, Yehovah your Elohim has given you this land by lot; arm yourselves, every one [that is] powerful, and go before your brethren the children of Israel.

3:19 Only your wives and your children and your cattle (I know that ye have much cattle), let them dwell in your cities which I have given you;

3:20 until Yehovah your Elohim give your brethren rest, as also he has given to you, and they also shall inherit the land, which Yehovah our Elohim gives them on the other side of Jordan; then ye shall return, each one to his inheritance which I have given you.

3:21 And I commanded Joshua at that time, saying, Your eyes have seen all things, which Yehovah our Elohim did to these two kings: so shall Yehovah our Elohim do to all the kingdoms against which thou crossest over thither.

3:22 Ye shall not be afraid of them, because Yehovah our Elohim himself shall fight for you.

3:23 And I besought Yehovah at that time, saying,

3:24 Lord Elohim, thou hast begun to shew to thy servant thy strength, and thy power, and thy mighty hand, and thy high arm: for what Elohim is there in heaven or on the earth, who will do as thou hast done, and according to thy might?

3:25 I will therefre go over and see this good land that is beyond Jordan, this good mountain and Antilibanus.

3:26 And Yehovah because of you did not regard me, and hearkened not to me; and Yehovah said to me, Let it suffice thee, speak not of this matter to me any more.

3:27 Go up to the top of the quarried rock, and look with thine eyes westward, and northward, and southward, and eastward, and behold [it] with thine eyes, for thou shalt not go over this Jordan.

3:28 And charge Joshua, and strengthen him, and encourage him; for he shall go before the face of this people, and he shall give them the inheritance of all the land which thou hast seen.

3:29 And we abode in the valley near the house of Phogor.

3:1 Then we turned, and went up the way to Bashan: and Og the king of Bashan came out against us, he and all his people, to battle at Edrei.

3:2 And Yehovah said unto me, Fear him not: for I will deliver him, and all his people, and his land, into thy hand; and thou shalt do unto him as thou didst unto Sihon king of the Amorites, which dwelt at Heshbon.

3:3 So Yehovah our Elohim delivered into our hands Og also, the king of Bashan, and all his people: and we smote him until none was left to him remaining.

3:4 And we took all his cities at that time, there was not a city which we took not from them, threescore cities, all the region of Argob, the kingdom of Og in Bashan.

3:5 All these cities were fenced with high walls, gates, and bars; beside unwalled towns a great many.

3:6 And we utterly destroyed them, as we did unto Sihon king of Heshbon, utterly destroying the men, women, and children, of every city.

3:7 But all the cattle, and the spoil of the cities, we took for a prey to ourselves.

3:8 And we took at that time out of the hand of the two kings of the Amorites the land that was on this side Jordan, from the river of Arnon unto mount Hermon;

3:9 (Which Hermon the Sidonians call Sirion; and the Amorites call it Shenir;)

3:10 All the cities of the plain, and all Gilead, and all Bashan, unto Salchah and Edrei, cities of the kingdom of Og in Bashan.

3:11 For only Og king of Bashan remained of the remnant of giants; behold his bedstead was a bedstead of iron; is it not in Rabbath of the children of Ammon? nine cubits was the length thereof, and four cubits the breadth of it, after the cubit of a man.

3:12 And this land, which we possessed at that time, from Aroer, which is by the river Arnon, and half mount Gilead, and the cities thereof, gave I unto the Reubenites and to the Gadites.

3:13 And the rest of Gilead, and all Bashan, being the kingdom of Og, gave I unto the half tribe of Manasseh; all the region of Argob, with all Bashan, which was called the land of giants.

3:14 Jair the son of Manasseh took all the country of Argob unto the coasts of Geshuri and Maachathi; and called them after his own name, Bashanhavothjair, unto this day.

3:15 And I gave Gilead unto Machir.

3:16 And unto the Reubenites and unto the Gadites I gave from Gilead even unto the river Arnon half the valley, and the border even unto the river Jabbok, which is the border of the children of Ammon;

3:17 The plain also, and Jordan, and the coast thereof, from Chinnereth even unto the sea of the plain, even the salt sea, under Ashdothpisgah eastward.

3:18 And I commanded you at that time, saying, Yehovah your Elohim hath given you this land to possess it: ye shall pass over armed before your brethren the children of Israel, all that are meet for the war.

3:19 But your wives, and your little ones, and your cattle, (for I know that ye have much cattle,) shall abide in your cities which I have given you;

3:20 Until Yehovah have given rest unto your brethren, as well as unto you, and until they also possess the land which Yehovah your Elohim hath given them beyond Jordan: and then shall ye return every man unto his possession, which I have given you.

3:21 And I commanded Joshua at that time, saying, Thine eyes have seen all that Yehovah your Elohim hath done unto these two kings: so shall Yehovah do unto all the kingdoms whither thou passest.

3:22 Ye shall not fear them: for Yehovah your Elohim he shall fight for you.

3:23 And I besought Yehovah at that time, saying,

3:24 O Lord GOD, thou hast begun to show thy servant thy greatness, and thy mighty hand: for what Elohim is there in heaven or in earth, that can do according to thy works, and according to thy might?

3:25 I pray thee, let me go over, and see the good land that is beyond Jordan, that goodly mountain, and Lebanon.

3:26 But Yehovah was wroth with me for your sakes, and would not hear me: and Yehovah said unto me, Let it suffice thee; speak no more unto me of this matter.

3:27 Get thee up into the top of Pisgah, and lift up thine eyes westward, and northward, and southward, and eastward, and behold it with thine eyes: for thou shalt not go over this Jordan.

3:28 But charge Joshua, and encourage him, and strengthen him: for he shall go over before this people, and he shall cause them to inherit the land which thou shalt see.

3:29 So we abode in the valley over against Bethpeor.
