Deuteronomy 5

Deuteronomy 5

5:1 And Moses called all Israel, and said to them, Hear, Israel, the ordinances and judgments, all that I speak in your ears this day, and ye shall learn them, and observe to do them.

5:2 Yehovah your Elohim made a covenant with you in Choreb.

5:3 Yehovah did not make this covenant with your fathers, but with you: ye are all here alive this day.

5:4 Yehovah spoke to you face to face in the mountain out of the midst of the fire.

5:5 And I stood between Yehovah and you at that time to report to you the words of Yehovah, (because ye were afraid before the fire, and ye went not up to the mountain,) saying,

5:6 I am Yehovah thy Elohim, who brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.

5:7 Thou shalt have no other gods before my face.

5:8 Thou shalt not make to thyself an image, nor likeness of any thing, whatever things [are] in the heaven above, and whatever [are] in the earth beneath, and whatever [are] in the waters under the earth.

5:9 Thou shalt not bow down to them, nor shalt thou serve them; for I am the Lord thy Elohim, a jealous Elohim, visiting the sins of the fathers upon the children to the third and fourth generation to them that hate me,

5:10 and doing mercifully to thousands of them that love me, and that keep my commandments.

5:11 Thou shalt not take the name of Yehovah thy Elohim in vain, for Yehovah thy Elohim will certainly not acquit him that takes his name in vain.

5:12 Keep the sabbath day to sanctify it, as Yehovah thy Elohim commanded thee.

5:13 Six days thou shalt work, and thou shalt do all thy works;

5:14 but on the seventh day [is] the sabbath of Yehovah thy Elohim: thou shalt do in it no work, thou, and thy son, and thy daughter, thy man-servant, and thy maid-servant, thine ox, and thine ass, and all thy cattle, and the stranger that sojourns in the midst of thee; that thy man-servant may rest, and thy maid, and thine ox, as well as thou.

5:15 And thou shalt remember that thou wast a slave in the land of Egypt, and Yehovah thy Elohim brought thee out thence with a mighty hand, and a high arm: therefore Yehovah appointed thee to keep the sabbath day and to sanctify it.

5:16 Honour thy father and thy mother, as Yehovah thy Elohim commanded thee; that it may be well with thee, and that thou mayest live long upon the land, which Yehovah thy Elohim gives thee.

5:17 Thou shalt not commit murder.

5:18 Thou shalt not commit adultery.

5:19 Thou shalt not steal.

5:20 Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour.

5:21 Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's wife; thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's house, nor his field, nor his man-servant, nor his maid, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any beast of his, nor any thing that is thy neighbour's.

5:22 These words Yehovah spoke to all the assembly of you in the mountain out of the midst of the fire-- [there was] darkness, blackness, storm, a loud voice-- and he added no more, and he wrote them on two tables of stone, and he gave them to me.

5:23 And it came to pass when ye heard the voice out of the midst of the fire, for the mountain burned with fire, that ye came to me, even all the heads of your tribes, and your elders:

5:24 and ye said, Behold, Yehovah our Elohim has shewn us his glory, and we have heard his voice out of the midst of the fire: this day we have seen that Elohim shall speak to man, and he shall live.

5:25 And now let us not die, for this great fire will consume us, if we shall hear the voice of Yehovah our Elohim any more, an we shall die.

5:26 For what flesh [is there] which has heard the voice of the living Elohim, speaking out of the midst of the fire, as we [have heard], and shall live?

5:27 Do thou draw near, and hear all that Yehovah our Elohim shall say, and thou shalt speak to us all things whatsoever Yehovah our Elohim shall speak to thee, and we will hear, and do.

5:28 And Yehovah heard the voice of your words as ye spoke to me; and the Lord said to me, I have heard the voice of the words of this people, even all things that they have said to thee. [They have] well [said] all that they have spoken.

5:29 O that there were such a heart in them, that they should fear me and keep my commands always, that it might be well with them and with their sons for ever.

5:30 Go, say to them, Return ye to your houses;

5:31 but stand thou here with me, and I will tell thee all the commands, and the ordinances, and the judgments, which thou shalt teach them, and let them do so in the land which I give them for an inheritance.

5:32 And ye shall take heed to do as Yehovah thy Elohim commanded thee; ye shall not turn aside to the right hand or to the left,

5:33 according to all the way which Yehovah thy Elohim commanded thee to walk in it, that he may give thee rest; and that it may be well with thee, and ye may prolong your days on the land which ye shall inherit.

5:1 And Moses called all Israel, and said unto them, Hear, O Israel, the statutes and judgments which I speak in your ears this day, that ye may learn them, and keep, and do them.

5:2 Yehovah our Elohim made a covenant with us in Horeb.

5:3 Yehovah made not this covenant with our fathers, but with us, even us, who are all of us here alive this day.

5:4 Yehovah talked with you face to face in the mount out of the midst of the fire,

5:5 (I stood between Yehovah and you at that time, to show you the word of Yehovah: for ye were afraid by reason of the fire, and went not up into the mount;) saying,

5:6 I am Yehovah thy Elohim, which brought thee out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage.

5:7 Thou shalt have none other gods before me.

5:8 Thou shalt not make thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the waters beneath the earth:

5:9 Thou shalt not bow down thyself unto them, nor serve them: for I the Yehovah thy Elohim am a jealous Elohim, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me,

5:10 And showing mercy unto thousands of them that love me and keep my commandments.

5:11 Thou shalt not take the name of Yehovah thy Elohim in vain: for Yehovah will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.

5:12 Keep the sabbath day to sanctify it, as Yehovah thy Elohim hath commanded thee.

5:13 Six days thou shalt labor, and do all thy work:

5:14 But the seventh day is the sabbath of Yehovah thy Elohim: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, nor thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thine ox, nor thine ass, nor any of thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates; that thy manservant and thy maidservant may rest as well as thou.

5:15 And remember that thou wast a servant in the land of Egypt, and that Yehovah thy Elohim brought thee out thence through a mighty hand and by a stretched out arm: therefore Yehovah thy Elohim commanded thee to keep the sabbath day.

5:16 Honor thy father and thy mother, as Yehovah thy Elohim hath commanded thee; that thy days may be prolonged, and that it may go well with thee, in the land which Yehovah thy Elohim giveth thee.

5:17 Thou shalt not kill.

5:18 Neither shalt thou commit adultery.

5:19 Neither shalt thou steal.

5:20 Neither shalt thou bear false witness against thy neighbor.

5:21 Neither shalt thou desire thy neighbor's wife, neither shalt thou covet thy neighbor's house, his field, or his manservant, or his maidservant, his ox, or his ass, or any thing that is thy neighbor's.

5:22 These words Yehovah spake unto all your assembly in the mount out of the midst of the fire, of the cloud, and of the thick darkness, with a great voice: and he added no more. And he wrote them in two tables of stone, and delivered them unto me.

5:23 And it came to pass, when ye heard the voice out of the midst of the darkness, (for the mountain did burn with fire,) that ye came near unto me, even all the heads of your tribes, and your elders;

5:24 And ye said, Behold, Yehovah our Elohim hath showed us his glory and his greatness, and we have heard his voice out of the midst of the fire: we have seen this day that Elohim doth talk with man, and he liveth.

5:25 Now therefore why should we die? for this great fire will consume us: if we hear the voice of Yehovah our Elohim any more, then we shall die.

5:26 For who is there of all flesh, that hath heard the voice of the living Elohim speaking out of the midst of the fire, as we have, and lived?

5:27 Go thou near, and hear all that Yehovah our Elohim shall say: and speak thou unto us all that Yehovah our Elohim shall speak unto thee; and we will hear it, and do it.

5:28 And Yehovah heard the voice of your words, when ye spake unto me; and Yehovah said unto me, I have heard the voice of the words of this people, which they have spoken unto thee: they have well said all that they have spoken.

5:29 O that there were such an heart in them, that they would fear me, and keep all my commandments always, that it might be well with them, and with their children for ever!

5:30 Go say to them, Get you into your tents again.

5:31 But as for thee, stand thou here by me, and I will speak unto thee all the commandments, and the statutes, and the judgments, which thou shalt teach them, that they may do them in the land which I give them to possess it.

5:32 Ye shall observe to do therefore as Yehovah your Elohim hath commanded you: ye shall not turn aside to the right hand or to the left.

5:33 Ye shall walk in all the ways which Yehovah your Elohim hath commanded you, that ye may live, and that it may be well with you, and that ye may prolong your days in the land which ye shall possess.
