18:1 The priests, the Levites, even the
whole tribe of Levi, shall have no part nor inheritance with Israel; the
burnt-offerings of Yehovah [are] their inheritance, they shall eat them.
18:2 And they shall have no inheritance among their brethren; Yehovah
himself [is] his portion, as he said to him.
18:3 And this [is] the due of the priests in the things coming from the
people from those who offer sacrifices, whether it be a calf or a sheep; and
thou shalt give the shoulder to the priest, and the cheeks, and the great
intestine:
18:4 and the first-fruits of thy corn, and of thy wine, and of thine oil;
and thou shalt give to him the first-fruits of the fleeces of thy sheep:
18:5 because Yehovah has chosen him out of all thy tribes, to stand before
Yehovah thy Elohim, to minister and bless in his name, himself and his sons
among the children of Israel.
18:6 And if a Levite come from one of the cities of all the children of
Israel, where he himself dwells, accordingly as his mind desires, to the
place which he shall have chosen,
18:7 he shall minister to the name of Yehovah his Elohim, as all his brethren
the Levites, who stand there present before Yehovah thy Elohim.
18:8 He shall eat an allotted portion, besides the sale of his hereditary
property.
18:9 And when thou shalt have entered into the land which Yehovah thy Elohim
gives thee, thou shalt not learn to do according to the abominations of
those nations.
18:10 There shall not be found in thee one who purges his son or his
daughter with fire, one who uses divination, who deals with omens, and
augury,
18:11 a sorcerer employing incantation, one who has in him a divining
spirit, and observer of signs, questioning the dead.
18:12 For every one that does these things is an abomination to Yehovah thy
Elohim; for because of these abominations Yehovah will destroy them from
before thy face.
18:13 Thou shalt be perfect before Yehovah thy Elohim.
18:14 For all these nations whose [land] thou shalt inherit, they will
listen to omens and divinations; but Yehovah thy Elohim has not permitted thee
so [to do].
18:15 Yehovah thy Elohim shall raise up to thee a prophet of thy brethren,
like me; him shall ye hear:
18:16 according to all things which thou didst desire of Yehovah thy Elohim in
Choreb in the day of the assembly, saying, We will not again hear the voice
of Yehovah thy Elohim, and we will not any more see this great fire, and [so]
we shall not die.
18:17 And Yehovah said to me, They have spoken rightly all that they have
said to thee.
18:18 I will raise up to them a prophet of their brethren, like thee; and I
will put my words in his mouth, and he shall speak to them as I shall
command him.
18:19 And whatever man shall not hearken to whatsoever words that prophet
shall speak in my name, I will take vengeance on him.
18:20 But the prophet whosoever shall impiously speak in my name a word
which I have not commanded him to speak, and whosoever shall speak in the
name of other gods, that prophet shall die.
18:21 But if thou shalt say in thine heart, How shall we know the word which
Yehovah has not spoken?
18:22 Whatsoever words that prophet shall speak in the name of Yehovah, and
they shall not come true, and not come to pass, this [is] the thing which
Yehovah has not spoken; that prophet has spoken wickedly: ye shall not
spare him. |

18:2 Therefore shall they have no inheritance among their brethren: Yehovah
is their inheritance, as he hath said unto them.
18:3 And this shall be the priest's due from the people, from them that
offer a sacrifice, whether it be ox or sheep; and they shall give unto the
priest the shoulder, and the two cheeks, and the maw.
18:4 The firstfruit also of thy corn, of thy wine, and of thine oil, and the
first of the fleece of thy sheep, shalt thou give him.
18:5 For Yehovah thy Elohim hath chosen him out of all thy tribes, to stand to
minister in the name of Yehovah, him and his sons for ever.
18:6 And if a Levite come from any of thy gates out of all Israel, where he
sojourned, and come with all the desire of his mind unto the place which the
Yehovah shall choose;
18:7 Then he shall minister in the name of Yehovah his Elohim, as all his
brethren the Levites do, which stand there before Yehovah.
18:8 They shall have like portions to eat, beside that which cometh of the
sale of his patrimony.
18:9 When thou art come into the land which Yehovah thy Elohim giveth thee,
thou shalt not learn to do after the abominations of those nations.
18:10 There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his
daughter to pass through the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer
of times, or an enchanter, or a witch.
18:11 Or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a
necromancer.
18:12 For all that do these things are an abomination unto Yehovah: and
because of these abominations Yehovah thy Elohim doth drive them out from
before thee.
18:13 Thou shalt be perfect with Yehovah thy Elohim.
18:14 For these nations, which thou shalt possess, hearkened unto observers
of times, and unto diviners: but as for thee, Yehovah thy Elohim hath not
suffered thee so to do.
18:15 Yehovah thy Elohim will raise up unto thee a Prophet from the midst of
thee, of thy brethren, like unto me; unto him ye shall hearken;
18:16 According to all that thou desiredst of Yehovah thy Elohim in Horeb in
the day of the assembly, saying, Let me not hear again the voice of Yehovah
my Elohim, neither let me see this great fire any more, that I die not.
18:17 And Yehovah said unto me, They have well spoken that which they have
spoken.
18:18 I will raise them up a Prophet from among their brethren, like unto
thee, and will put my words in his mouth; and he shall speak unto them all
that I shall command him.
18:19 And it shall come to pass, that whosoever will not hearken unto my
words which he shall speak in my name, I will require it of him.
18:20 But the prophet, which shall presume to speak a word in my name, which
I have not commanded him to speak, or that shall speak in the name of other
gods, even that prophet shall die.
18:21 And if thou say in thine heart, How shall we know the word which the
Yehovah hath not spoken?
18:22 When a prophet speaketh in the name of Yehovah, if the thing follow
not, nor come to pass, that is the thing which Yehovah hath not spoken, but
the prophet hath spoken it presumptuously: thou shalt not be afraid of him. |
