19:1 THE VISION OF EGYPT. Behold, Yehovah
sits on a swift cloud, and shall come to Egypt: and the idols of Egypt shall
be moved at his presence, and their heart shall faint within them.
19:2 And the Egyptians shall be stirred up against the Egyptians: and a man
shall fight against his brother, and a man against his neighbor, city
against city, and law against law.
19:3 And the spirit of the Egyptians shall be troubled within them; and I
will frustrate their counsel: and they shall enquire of their gods and their
images, and them that speak out of the earth, and them that have in them a
divining spirit.
19:4 And I will deliver Egypt into the hands of men, of cruel lords; and
cruel kings shall rule over them: thus saith Yehovah of hosts.
19:5 And the Egyptians shall drink the water that is by the sea, but the
river shall fail, and be dried up.
19:6 And the streams shall fail, and the canals of the river; and every
reservoir of water shall be dried up, in every marsh also of reed and
papyrus.
19:7 And all the green herbage round about the river, and everything sown by
the side of the river, shall be blasted with the wind and dried up.
19:8 And the fishermen shall groan, and all that cast a hook into the river
shall groan; they also that cast nets, and the anglers shall mourn.
19:9 And shame shall come upon them that work fine flax, and them that make
fine linen.
19:10 And they that work at them shall be in pain, and all that make beer
shall be grieved, and be pained in their souls.
19:11 And the princes of Tanis shall be fools: [as for] the king's wise
counsellors, their counsel shall be turned into folly: how will ye say to
the king, we are sons of wise men, sons of ancient kings?
19:12 Where are now thy wise men? and let them declare to thee, and say,
What has Yehovah of hosts purposed upon Egypt?
19:13 The princes of Tanis have failed, and the princes of Memphis are
lifted up [with pride], and they shall cause Egypt to wander by tribes.
19:14 For Yehovah has prepared for them a spirit of error, and they have
caused Egypt to err in all their works, as one staggers who is drunken and
vomits also.
19:15 And there shall be no work to the Egyptians, which shall make head or
tail, or beginning or end.
19:16 But in that day the Egyptians shall be as women, in fear and in
trembling because of the hand of Yehovah of hosts, which he shall bring
upon them.
19:17 And the land of the Jews shall be for a terror to the Egyptians:
whosoever shall name it to them, they shall fear, because of the counsel
which Yehovah of hosts has purposed concerning it.
19:18 In that day there shall be five cities in Egypt speaking the language
of Chanaan, and swearing by the name of Yehovah of hosts; one city shall be
called the city of Asedec.
19:19 In that day there shall be an altar to Yehovah in the land of the
Egyptians, and a pillar to Yehovah by its border.
19:20 And it shall be for a sign to Yehovah for ever in the land of Egypt:
for they shall presently cry to Yehovah by reason of them that afflict
them, and he shall send them a man who shall save them; he shall judge and
save them.
19:21 And Yehovah shall be known to the Egyptians, and the Egyptians shall
know Yehovah in that day; and they shall offer sacrifices, and shall vow
vows to Yehovah, and pay [them].
19:22 And Yehovah shall smite the Egyptians with a stroke, and shall
completely heal them: and they shall return to Yehovah, and he shall hear
them, and thoroughly heal them.
19:23 In that day there shall be a way from Egypt to the Assyrians, and the
Assyrians shall enter into Egypt, and the Egyptians shall go to the
Assyrians, and the Egyptians shall serve the Assyrians.
19:24 In that day shall Israel be third with the Egyptians and the
Assyrians, blessed in the land which Yehovah of hosts has blessed,
19:25 saying, Blessed be my people that is in Egypt, and that is among the
Assyrians, and Israel mine inheritance. |
19:1 The burden of Egypt. Behold, Yehovah
rideth upon a swift cloud, and shall come into Egypt: and the idols of Egypt
shall be moved at his presence, and the heart of Egypt shall melt in the
midst of it.
19:2 And I will set the Egyptians against the Egyptians: and they shall
fight every one against his brother, and every one against his neighbour;
city against city, and kingdom against kingdom.
19:3 And the spirit of Egypt shall fail in the midst thereof; and I will
destroy the counsel thereof: and they shall seek to the idols, and to the
charmers, and to them that have familiar spirits, and to the wizards.
19:4 And the Egyptians will I give over into the hand of a cruel lord; and a
fierce king shall rule over them, saith Yehovah, Yehovah of hosts.
19:5 And the waters shall fail from the sea, and the river shall be wasted
and dried up.
19:6 And they shall turn the rivers far away; and the brooks of defence
shall be emptied and dried up: the reeds and flags shall wither.
19:7 The paper reeds by the brooks, by the mouth of the brooks, and every
thing sown by the brooks, shall wither, be driven away, and be no more.
19:8 The fishers also shall mourn, and all they that cast angle into the
brooks shall lament, and they that spread nets upon the waters shall
languish.
19:9 Moreover they that work in fine flax, and they that weave networks,
shall be confounded.
19:10 And they shall be broken in the purposes thereof, all that make
sluices and ponds for fish.
19:11 Surely the princes of Zoan are fools, the counsel of the wise
counsellors ofPharaohh is become brutish: how say ye untoPharaohh, I am the
son of the wise, the son of ancient kings?
19:12 Where are they? where are thy wise men? and let them tell thee now,
and let them know what Yehovah of hosts hath purposed upon Egypt.
19:13 The princes of Zoan are become fools, the princes of Noph are
deceived; they have also seduced Egypt, even they that are the stay of the
tribes thereof.
19:14 Yehovah hath mingled a perverse spirit in the midst thereof: and they
have caused Egypt to err in every work thereof, as a drunken man staggereth
in his vomit.
19:15 Neither shall there be any work for Egypt, which the head or tail,
branch or rush, may do.
19:16 In that day shall Egypt be like unto women: and it shall be afraid and
fear because of the shaking of the hand of Yehovah of hosts, which he
shaketh over it.
19:17 And the land of Judah shall be a terror unto Egypt, every one that
maketh mention thereof shall be afraid in himself, because of the counsel of
Yehovah of hosts, which he hath determined against it.
19:18 In that day shall five cities in the land of Egypt speak the language
of Canaan, and swear to Yehovah of hosts; one shall be called, The city of
destruction.
19:19 In that day shall there be an altar to Yehovah in the midst of the
land of Egypt, and a pillar at the border thereof to Yehovah.
19:20 And it shall be for a sign and for a witness unto Yehovah of hosts in
the land of Egypt: for they shall cry unto Yehovah because of the
oppressors, and he shall send them a saviour, and a great one, and he shall
deliver them.
19:21 And Yehovah shall be known to Egypt, and the Egyptians shall know the
Yehovah in that day, and shall do sacrifice and oblation; yea, they shall vow a
vow unto Yehovah, and perform it.
19:22 And Yehovah shall smite Egypt: he shall smite and heal it: and they
shall return even to Yehovah, and he shall be intreated of them, and shall
heal them.
19:23 In that day shall there be a highway out of Egypt to Assyria, and the
Assyrian shall come into Egypt, and the Egyptian into Assyria, and the
Egyptians shall serve with the Assyrians.
19:24 In that day shall Israel be the third with Egypt and with Assyria,
even a blessing in the midst of the land:
19:25 Whom Yehovah of hosts shall bless, saying, Blessed be Egypt my
people, and Assyria the work of my hands, and Israel mine inheritance. |
