Esaias (Isaiah) 31

Esaias (Isaiah) 31

31:1 Woe to them that go down to Egypt for help, who trust in horses and chariots, for they are many; and in horses, [which are] a great multitude; and have not trusted in the Holy One of Israel, and have not sought Yehovah.

31:2 Therefore he has wisely brought evils upon them, and his word shall not be frustrated; and he shall rise up against the houses of wicked men, and against their vain hope,

31:3 [even] an Egyptian, a man, and not Elohim; the flesh of horses, and there is no help [in them]: but Yehovah shall bring his hand upon them, and the helpers shall fail, and all shall perish together.

31:4 For thus said Yehovah to me, As a lion would roar, or a lion's whelp over prey which he has taken, and cry over it, until the mountains are filled with his voice, and [the animals] are awe-struck and tremble at the fierceness of his wrath: so Yehovah of hosts shall descend to fight upon the mount Zion, [even] upon her mountains.

31:5 As birds flying, so shall Yehovah of hosts defend; he shall defend Jerusalem, and he shall rescue, and save and deliver.

31:6 Turn, ye children of Israel, who devise a deep and sinful counsel.

31:7 For in that day men shall renounce their silver idols and [their] golden idols, which their hands made.

31:8 And the Assyrian shall fall: not the sword of a great man, nor the sword of a mean man shall devour him; neither shall he flee from the face of the sword: but the young men shall be overthrown:

31:9 for they shall be compassed with rocks as with a trench, and shall be worsted; and he that flees shall be taken. Thus saith Yehovah, Blesses is he that has a seed in Zion, and household friends in Jerusalem.

31:1 Woe to them that go down to Egypt for help; and stay on horses, and trust in chariots, because they are many; and in horsemen, because they are very strong; but they look not unto the Holy One of Israel, neither seek Yehovah!

31:2 Yet he also is wise, and will bring evil, and will not call back his words: but will arise against the house of the evildoers, and against the help of them that work iniquity.

31:3 Now the Egyptians are men, and not Elohim; and their horses flesh, and not spirit. When Yehovah shall stretch out his hand, both he that helpeth shall fall, and he that is holpen shall fall down, and they all shall fail together.

31:4 For thus hath Yehovah spoken unto me, Like as the lion and the young lion roaring on his prey, when a multitude of shepherds is called forth against him, he will not be afraid of their voice, nor abase himself for the noise of them: so shall Yehovah of hosts come down to fight for mount Zion, and for the hill thereof.

31:5 As birds flying, so will Yehovah of hosts defend Jerusalem; defending also he will deliver it; and passing over he will preserve it.

31:6 Turn ye unto him from whom the children of Israel have deeply revolted.

31:7 For in that day every man shall cast away his idols of silver, and his idols of gold, which your own hands have made unto you for a sin.

31:8 Then shall the Assyrian fall with the sword, not of a mighty man; and the sword, not of a mean man, shall devour him: but he shall flee from the sword, and his young men shall be discomfited.

31:9 And he shall pass over to his strong hold for fear, and his princes shall be afraid of the ensign, saith Yehovah, whose fire is in Zion, and his furnace in Jerusalem.
