34:1 And Yehovah said to Moses, Hew for
thyself two tables of stone, as also the first were, and come up to me to
the mountain; and I will write upon the tables the words, which were on the
first tables, which thou brokest.
34:2 And be ready by the morning, and thou shalt go up to the mount Sina,
and shalt stand there for me on the top of the mountain.
34:3 And let no one go up with thee, nor be seen in all the mountain; and
let not the sheep and oxen feed near that mountain.
34:4 And [Moses] hewed two tables of stone, as also the first were; and
Moses having arisen early, went up to the mount Sina, as Yehovah appointed
him; and Moses took the two tables of stone.
34:5 And Yehovah descended in a cloud, and stood near him there, and called
by the name of Yehovah.
34:6 And Yehovah passed by before his face, and proclaimed, Yehovah Elohim,
pitiful and merciful, longsuffering and very compassionate, and true,
34:7 and keeping justice and mercy for thousands, taking away iniquity, and
unrighteousness, and sins; and he will not clear the guilty; bringing the
iniquity of the fathers upon the children, and to the children's children,
to the third and fourth generation.
34:8 An Moses hasted, and bowed to the earth and worshiped;
34:9 and said, If I have found grace before thee, let my Lord go with us;
for the people is stiff-necked: and thou shalt take away our sins and our
iniquities, and we will be thine.
34:10 And Yehovah said to Moses, Behold, I establish a covenant for thee in
the presence of all thy people; I will do glorious things, which have not
been done in all the earth, or in any nation; and all the people among whom
thou art shall see the works of Yehovah, that they are wonderful, which I
will do for thee.
34:11 Do thou take heed to all things whatsoever I command thee: behold, I
cast out before your face the Amorite and the Canaanite and the Pherezite,
and the Chettite, and Evite, and Gergesite and Jebusite:
34:12 take heed to thyself, lest at any time thou make a covenant with the
dwellers on the land, into which thou art entering, lest it be to thee a
stumbling-block among you.
34:13 Ye shall destroy their altars, and break in pieces their pillars, and
ye shall cut down their groves, and the graven images of their gods ye shall
burn with fire.
34:14 For ye shall not worship strange gods, for Yehovah Elohim, a jealous
name, is a jealous Elohim;
34:15 lest at any time thou make a covenant with the dwellers on the land,
and they go a whoring after their gods, and sacrifice to their gods, and
they call thee, and thou shouldest eat of their feasts,
34:16 and thou shouldest take of their daughters to thy sons, and thou
shouldest give of thy daughters to their sons; and thy daughters should go a
whoring after their gods, and thy sons should go a whoring after their gods.
34:17 And thou shalt not make to thyself molten gods.
34:18 And thou shalt keep the feast of unleavened bread: seven days shalt
thou eat unleavened bread, as I have charged thee, at the season in the
month of new [corn]; for in the month of new [corn] thou camest out from
Egypt.
34:19 The males [are] mine, everything that opens the womb; every first-born
of oxen, and [every] first-born of sheep.
34:20 And the first-born of an ass thou shalt redeem with a sheep, and if
thou wilt not redeem it thou shalt pay a price: every first-born of thy sons
shalt thou redeem: thou shalt not appear before me empty.
34:21 Six days thou shalt work, but on the seventh day thou shalt rest:
[there shall be] rest in seed-time and harvest.
34:22 And thou shalt keep to me the feast of weeks, the beginning of
wheat-harvest; and the feast of ingathering in the middle of the year.
34:23 Three times in the year shall every male of thine appear before the
Lord the Elohim of Israel.
34:24 For when I shall have cast out the nations before thy face, and shall
have enlarged thy coasts, no one shall desire thy land, whenever thou mayest
go up to appear before Yehovah thy Elohim, three times in the year.
34:25 Thou shalt not offer the blood of my sacrifices with leaven, neither
shall the sacrifices of the feast of the passover remain till the morning.
34:26 The first-fruits of thy land shalt thou put into the house of Yehovah
thy Elohim: thou shalt not boil a lamb in his mother's milk.
34:27 And Yehovah said to Moses, Write these words for thyself, for on
these words I have established a covenant with thee and with Israel.
34:28 And Moses was there before Yehovah forty days, and forty nights; he
did not eat bread, and he did not drink water; and he wrote upon the tables
these words of the covenant, the ten sayings.
34:29 And when Moses went down from the mountain, [there were] the two
tables in the hands of Moses,-- as then he went down from the mountain,
Moses knew not that the appearance of the skin of his face was glorified,
when Elohim spoke to him.
34:30 And Aaron and all the elders of Israel saw Moses, and the appearance
of the skin of his face was made glorious, and they feared to approach him.
34:31 And Moses called them, and Aaron and all the rulers of the synagogue
turned towards him, and Moses spoke to them.
34:32 And afterwards all the children of Israel came to him, and he
commanded them all things, whatsoever Yehovah had commanded him in the
mount of Sina.
34:33 And when he ceased speaking to them, he put a veil on his face.
34:34 And whenever Moses went in before Yehovah to speak to him, he took
off the veil till he went out, and he went forth and spoke to all the
children of Israel whatsoever Yehovah commanded him.
34:35 And the children of Israel saw the face of Moses, that it was
glorified; and Moses put the veil over his face, till he went in to speak
with him. |
34:1 And Yehovah said unto Moses, Hew thee
two tables of stone like unto the first: and I will write upon these tables
the words that were in the first tables, which thou brakest.
34:2 And be ready in the morning, and come up in the morning unto mount
Sinai, and present thyself there to me in the top of the mount.
34:3 And no man shall come up with thee, neither let any man be seen
throughout all the mount; neither let the flocks nor herds feed before that
mount.
34:4 And he hewed two tables of stone like unto the first; and Moses rose up
early in the morning, and went up unto mount Sinai, as Yehovah had
commanded him, and took in his hand the two tables of stone.
34:5 And Yehovah descended in the cloud, and stood with him there, and
proclaimed the name of Yehovah.
34:6 And Yehovah passed by before him, and proclaimed, Yehovah, Yehovah
Elohim, merciful and gracious, long-suffering, and abundant in goodness and
truth,
34:7 Keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and
sin, and that will by no means clear the guilty; visiting the iniquity of
the fathers upon the children, and upon the children's children, unto the
third and to the fourth generation.
34:8 And Moses made haste, and bowed his head toward the earth, and
worshipped.
34:9 And he said, If now I have found grace in thy sight, O Yehovah, let my
Yehovah, I pray thee, go among us; for it is a stiffnecked people; and pardon
our iniquity and our sin, and take us for thine inheritance.
34:10 And he said, Behold, I make a covenant: before all thy people I will
do marvels, such as have not been done in all the earth, nor in any nation:
and all the people among which thou art shall see the work of Yehovah: for
it is a terrible thing that I will do with thee.
34:11 Observe thou that which I command thee this day: behold, I drive out
before thee the Amorite, and the Canaanite, and the Hittite, and the
Perizzite, and the Hivite, and the Jebusite.
34:12 Take heed to thyself, lest thou make a covenant with the inhabitants
of the land whither thou goest, lest it be for a snare in the midst of thee:
34:13 But ye shall destroy their altars, break their images, and cut down
their groves:
34:14 For thou shalt worship no other god: for Yehovah, whose name is
Jealous, is a jealous Elohim:
34:15 Lest thou make a covenant with the inhabitants of the land, and they
go a whoring after their gods, and do sacrifice unto their gods, and one
call thee, and thou eat of his sacrifice;
34:16 And thou take of their daughters unto thy sons, and their daughters go
a whoring after their gods, and make thy sons go a whoring after their gods.
34:17 Thou shalt make thee no molten gods.
34:18 The feast of unleavened bread shalt thou keep. Seven days thou shalt
eat unleavened bread, as I commanded thee, in the time of the month Abib:
for in the month Abib thou camest out from Egypt.
34:19 All that openeth the matrix is mine; and every firstling among thy
cattle, whether ox or sheep, that is male.
34:20 But the firstling of an ass thou shalt redeem with a lamb: and if thou
redeem him not, then shalt thou break his neck. All the firstborn of thy
sons thou shalt redeem. And none shall appear before me empty.
34:21 Six days thou shalt work, but on the seventh day thou shalt rest: in
earing time and in harvest thou shalt rest.
34:22 And thou shalt observe the feast of weeks, of the firstfruits of wheat
harvest, and the feast of ingathering at the year's end.
34:23 Thrice in the year shall all your men children appear before Yehovah
Elohim, the Elohim of Israel.
34:24 For I will cast out the nations before thee, and enlarge thy borders:
neither shall any man desire thy land, when thou shalt go up to appear
before Yehovah thy Elohim thrice in the year.
34:25 Thou shalt not offer the blood of my sacrifice with leaven; neither
shall the sacrifice of the feast of the passover be left unto the morning.
34:26 The first of the firstfruits of thy land thou shalt bring unto the
house of Yehovah thy Elohim. Thou shalt not seethe a kid in his mother's milk.
34:27 And Yehovah said unto Moses, Write thou these words: for after the
tenor of these words I have made a covenant with thee and with Israel.
34:28 And he was there with Yehovah forty days and forty nights; he did
neither eat bread, nor drink water. And he wrote upon the tables the words
of the covenant, the ten commandments.
34:29 And it came to pass, when Moses came down from mount Sinai with the
two tables of testimony in Moses' hand, when he came down from the mount,
that Moses wist not that the skin of his face shone while he talked with
him.
34:30 And when Aaron and all the children of Israel saw Moses, behold, the
skin of his face shone; and they were afraid to come nigh him.
34:31 And Moses called unto them; and Aaron and all the rulers of the
congregation returned unto him: and Moses talked with them.
34:32 And afterward all the children of Israel came nigh: and he gave them
in commandment all that Yehovah had spoken with him in mount Sinai.
34:33 And till Moses had done speaking with them, he put a vail on his face.
34:34 But when Moses went in before Yehovah to speak with him, he took the
vail off, until he came out. And he came out, and spake unto the children of
Israel that which he was commanded.
34:35 And the children of Israel saw the face of Moses, that the skin of
Moses' face shone: and Moses put the vail upon his face again, until he went
in to speak with him. |
