Genesis 4

Genesis 4

4:1 And Adam knew Eve his wife, and she conceived and brought forth Cain and said, I have gained a man through Elohim.

4:2 And she again bore his brother Abel. And Abel was a keeper of sheep, but Cain was a tiller of the ground.

4:3 And it was so after some time that Cain brought of the fruits of the earth a sacrifice to Yehovah.

4:4 And Abel also brought of the first born of his sheep and of his fatlings, and Elohim looked upon Abel and his gifts,

4:5 but Cain and his sacrifices he regarded not, and Cain was exceedingly sorrowful and his countenance fell.

4:6 And Yehovah Elohim said to Cain, Why art thou become very sorrowful and why is thy countenance fallen?

4:7 Hast thou not sinned if thou hast brought it rightly, but not rightly divided it? be still, to thee shall be his submission, and thou shalt rule over him.

4:8 And Cain said to Abl his brother, Let us go out into the plain; and it came to pass that when they were in the plain Cain rose up against Abel his brother, and slew him.

4:9 And Yehovah Elohim said to Cain, Where is Abel thy brother? and he said, I know not, am I my brother's keeper?

4:10 And Yehovah said, What hast thou done? the voice of thy brother's blood cries to me out of the ground.

4:11 And now thou [art] cursed from the earth which has opened her mouth to receive thy brother's blood from thy hand.

4:12 When thou tillest the earth, then it shall not continue to give its strength to thee: thou shalt be groaning and trembling on the earth.

4:13 And Cain said to Yehovah Elohim, My crime [is] too great for me to be forgiven.

4:14 If thou castest me out this day from the face of the earth, and I shall be hidden from thy presence, and I shall be groaning and trembling upon the earth, then it will be that any one that finds me shall slay me.

4:15 And Yehovah Elohim said to him, Not so, any one that slays Cain shall suffer seven-fold vengeance; and Yehovah Elohim set a mark upon Cain that no one that found him might slay him.

4:16 So Cain went forth from the presence of Elohim and dwelt in the land of Nod over against Eden.

4:17 And Cain knew his wife, and having conceived she bore Enoch; and he built a city; and he named the city after the name of his son, Enoch.

4:18 And to Enoch was born Gaidad; and Gaidad begot Maleleel; and Maleleel begot Mathusala; and Mathusala begot Lamech.

4:19 And Lamech took to himself two wives; the name of the one was Ada, and the name of the second Sella.

4:20 And Ada bore Jobel; he was the father of those that dwell in tents, feeding cattle.

4:21 And the name of his brother was Jubal; he it was who invented the psaltery and harp.

4:22 And Sella also bore Thobel; he was a smith, a manufacturer both of brass and iron; and the sister of Thobel was Noahma.

4:23 And Lamech said to his wives, Ada and Sella, Hear my voice, ye wives of Lamech, consider my words, because I have slain a man to my sorrow and a youth to my grief.

4:24 Because vengeance has been exacted seven times on Cain's behalf, on Lamech's [it shall be] seventy times seven.

4:25 And Adam knew Eve his wife, and she conceived and bore a son, and called his name Seth, saying, For Elohim has raised up to me another seed instead of Abel, whom Cain slew.

4:26 And Seth had a son, and he called his name Enos: he hoped to call on the name of Yehovah Elohim.

4:1 And Adam knew Eve his wife; and she conceived, and bare Cain, and said, I have gotten a man from Yehovah.

4:2 And she again bare his brother Abel. And Abel was a keeper of sheep, but Cain was a tiller of the ground.

4:3 And in process of time it came to pass, that Cain brought of the fruit of the ground an offering unto Yehovah.

4:4 And Abel, he also brought of the firstlings of his flock and of the fat thereof. And Yehovah had respect unto Abel and to his offering:

4:5 But unto Cain and to his offering he had not respect. And Cain was very wroth, and his countenance fell.

4:6 And Yehovah said unto Cain, Why art thou wroth? and why is thy countenance fallen?

4:7 If thou doest well, shalt thou not be accepted? and if thou doest not well, sin lieth at the door. And unto thee shall be his desire, and thou shalt rule over him.

4:8 And Cain talked with Abel his brother: and it came to pass, when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother, and slew him.

4:9 And Yehovah said unto Cain, Where is Abel thy brother? And he said, I know not: Am I my brother's keeper?

4:10 And he said, What hast thou done? the voice of thy brother's blood crieth unto me from the ground.

4:11 And now art thou cursed from the earth, which hath opened her mouth to receive thy brother's blood from thy hand;

4:12 When thou tillest the ground, it shall not henceforth yield unto thee her strength; a fugitive and a vagabond shalt thou be in the earth.

4:13 And Cain said unto Yehovah, My punishment is greater than I can bear.

4:14 Behold, thou hast driven me out this day from the face of the earth; and from thy face shall I be hid; and I shall be a fugitive and a vagabond in the earth; and it shall come to pass, that every one that findeth me shall slay me.

4:15 And Yehovah said unto him, Therefore whosoever slayeth Cain, vengeance shall be taken on him sevenfold. And Yehovah set a mark upon Cain, lest any finding him should kill him.

4:16 And Cain went out from the presence of Yehovah, and dwelt in the land of Nod, on the east of Eden.

4:17 And Cain knew his wife; and she conceived, and bare Enoch: and he builded a city, and called the name of the city, after the name of his son, Enoch.

4:18 And unto Enoch was born Irad: and Irad begat Mehujael: and Mehujael begat Methusael: and Methusael begat Lamech.

4:19 And Lamech took unto him two wives: the name of the one was Adah, and the name of the other Zillah.

4:20 And Adah bare Jabal: he was the father of such as dwell in tents, and of such as have cattle.

4:21 And his brother's name was Jubal: he was the father of all such as handle the harp and organ.

4:22 And Zillah, she also bare Tubalcain, an instructer of every artificer in brass and iron: and the sister of Tubalcain was Naamah.

4:23 And Lamech said unto his wives, Adah and Zillah, Hear my voice; ye wives of Lamech, hearken unto my speech: for I have slain a man to my wounding, and a young man to my hurt.

4:24 If Cain shall be avenged sevenfold, truly Lamech seventy and sevenfold.

4:25 And Adam knew his wife again; and she bare a son, and called his name Seth: For Elohim, said she, hath appointed me another seed instead of Abel, whom Cain slew.

4:26 And to Seth, to him also there was born a son; and he called his name Enos: then began men to call upon the name of Yehovah.
