Genesis 41

Genesis 41

41:1 And it came to pass after two full years thatPharaoh had a dream. He thought he stood upon [the bank of] the river.

41:2 And lo, there came up as it were out of the river seven cows, fair in appearance, and choice of flesh, and they fed on the sedge.

41:3 And other seven cows came up after these out of the river, ill-favoured and lean-fleshed, and fed by the [other] cows on the bank of the river.

41:4 And the seven ill-favoured and lean cows devoured the seven well-favoured and choice-fleshed cows; andPharaoh awoke.

41:5 And he dreamed again. And, behold, seven ears came up on one stalk, choice and good.

41:6 And, behold, seven ears thin and blasted with the wind, grew up after them.

41:7 And the seven thin ears and blasted with the wind devoured the seven choice and full ears; andPharaoh awoke, and it was a dream.

41:8 And it was morning, and his soul was troubled; and he sent and called all the interpreters of Egypt, and all her wise men; andPharaoh related to them his dream, and there was no one to interpret it toPharaoh.

41:9 And the chief cupbearer spoke toPharaoh, saying, I this day remember my fault:

41:10Pharaoh was angry with his servants, and put us in prison in the house of the captain of the guard, both me and the chief baker.

41:11 And we had a dream both in one night, I and he; we saw, each according to his dream.

41:12 And there was there with us a young man, a Hebrew servant of the captain of the guard; and we related to him [our dreams], and he interpreted [them] to us.

41:13 And it came to pass, as he interpreted them to us, so also it happened, both that I was restored to my office, and that he was hanged.

41:14 AndPharaoh having sent, called Joseph; and they brought him out from the prison, and shaved him, and changed his dress, and he came toPharaoh.

41:15 AndPharaoh said to Joseph, I have seen a vision, and there is no one to interpret it; but I have heard say concerning thee that thou didst hear dreams and interpret them.

41:16 And Joseph answeredPharaoh and said, Without Elohim an answer of safety shall not be given toPharaoh.

41:17 AndPharaoh spoke to Joseph, saying, In my dream methought I stood by the bank of the river;

41:18 and there came up as it were out of the river, seven cows well-favoured and choice-fleshed, and they fed on the sedge.

41:19 And behold seven other cows came up after them out of the river, evil and ill-favoured and lean-fleshed, such that I never saw worse in all the land of Egypt.

41:20 And the seven ill-favoured and thin cows ate up the seven first good and choice cows.

41:21 And they went into their bellies; and it was not perceptible that they had gone into their bellies, and their appearance was ill-favoured, as also at the beginning; and after I awoke I slept,

41:22 and saw again in my sleep, and as it were seven ears came up on one stem, full and good.

41:23 And other seven ears, thin and blasted with the wind, sprang up close to them.

41:24 And the seven thin and blasted ears devoured the seven fine and full ears: so I spoke to the interpreters, and there was no one to explain it to me.

41:25 And Joseph said toPharaoh, The dream ofPharaoh is one; whatever Elohim does, he has shewn toPharaoh.

41:26 The seven good cows are seven years, and the seven good ears are seven years; the dream ofPharaoh is one.

41:27 And the seven thin kine that came up after them are seven years; and the seven thin and blasted ears are seven years; there shall be seven years of famine.

41:28 And as for the word which I have toldPharaoh, whatsoever Elohim intends to do, he has shewn toPharaoh:

41:29 behold, for seven years there is coming great plenty in all the land of Egypt.

41:30 But there shall come seven years of famine after these, and they shall forget the plenty that shall be in all Egypt, and the famine shall consume the land.

41:31 And the plenty shall not be known in the land by reason of the famine that shall be after this, for it shall be very grievous.

41:32 And concerning the repetition of the dream toPharaoh twice, [it is] because the saying which is from Elohim shall be true, and Elohim will hasten to accomplish it.

41:33 Now then, look out a wise and prudent man, and set him over the land of Egypt.

41:34 And letPharaoh make and appoint local governors over the land; and let them take up a fifth part of all the produce of the land of Egypt for the seven years of the plenty.

41:35 And let them gather all the food of these seven good years that are coming, and let the corn be gathered under the hand ofPharaoh; let food be kept in the cities.

41:36 And the stored food shall be for the land against the seven years of famine, which shall be in the land of Egypt; and the land shall not be utterly destroyed by the famine.

41:37 And the word was pleasing in the sight ofPharaoh, and in the sight of all his servants.

41:38 AndPharaoh said to all his servants, Shall we find such a man as this, who has the Spirit of Elohim in him?

41:39 AndPharaoh said to Joseph, Since Elohim has shewed thee all these things, there is not a wiser or more prudent man than thou.

41:40 Thou shalt be over my house, and all my people shall be obedient to thy word; only in the throne will I excel thee.

41:41 AndPharaoh said to Joseph, Behold, I set thee this day over all the land of Egypt.

41:42 AndPharaoh took his ring off his hand, and put it on the hand of Joseph, and put on him a robe of fine linen, and put a necklace of gold about his neck.

41:43 And he mounted him on the second of his chariots, and a herald made proclamation before him; and he set him over all the land of Egypt.

41:44 AndPharaoh said to Joseph, I amPharaoh; without thee no one shall lift up his hand on all the land of Egypt.

41:45 AndPharaoh called the name of Joseph, Psonthomphanech; and he gave him Aseneth, the daughter of Petephre, priest of Heliopolis, to wife.

41:46 And Joseph was thirty years old when he stood beforePharaoh, king of Egypt. And Joseph went out from the presence ofPharaoh, and went through all the land of Egypt.

41:47 And the land produced, in the seven years of plenty, [whole] handfuls [of corn].

41:48 And he gathered all the food of the seven years, in which was the plenty in the land of Egypt; and he laid up the food in the cities; the food of the fields of a city round about it he laid up in it.

41:49 And Joseph gathered very much corn as the sand of the sea, until it could not be numbered, for there was no number [of it].

41:50 And to Joseph were born two sons, before the seven years of famine came, which Aseneth, the daughter of Petephres, priest of Heliopolis, bore to him.

41:51 And Joseph called the name of the first-born, Manasse; for Elohim, [said he], has made me forget all my toils, and all my father's house.

41:52 And he called the name of the second, Ephraim; for Elohim, [said he], has increased me in the land of my humiliation.

41:53 And the seven years of plenty passed away, which were in the land of Egypt.

41:54 And the seven years of famine began to come, as Joseph said; and there was a famine in all the land; but in all the land of Egypt there was bread.

41:55 And all the land of Egypt was hungry; and the people cried toPharaoh for bread. AndPharaoh said to all the Egyptians, Go to Joseph, and do whatsoever he shall tell you.

41:56 And the famine was on the face of all the earth; and Joseph opened all the granaries, and sold to all the Egyptians.

41:57 And all countries came to Egypt to buy of Joseph, for the famine prevailed in all the earth.

41:1 And it came to pass at the end of two full years, thatPharaohh dreamed: and, behold, he stood by the river.

41:2 And, behold, there came up out of the river seven well favored kine and fatfleshed; and they fed in a meadow.

41:3 And, behold, seven other kine came up after them out of the river, ill favored and leanfleshed; and stood by the other kine upon the brink of the river.

41:4 And the ill favored and leanfleshed kine did eat up the seven well favored and fat kine. SoPharaohh awoke.

41:5 And he slept and dreamed the second time: and, behold, seven ears of corn came up upon one stalk, rank and good.

41:6 And, behold, seven thin ears and blasted with the east wind sprung up after them.

41:7 And the seven thin ears devoured the seven rank and full ears. And Pharaoh awoke, and, behold, it was a dream.

41:8 And it came to pass in the morning that his spirit was troubled; and he sent and called for all the magicians of Egypt, and all the wise men thereof: andPharaohh told them his dream; but there was none that could interpret them untoPharaohh.

41:9 Then spake the chief butler untoPharaohh, saying, I do remember my faults this day:

41:10Pharaohh was wroth with his servants, and put me in ward in the captain of the guard's house, both me and the chief baker:

41:11 And we dreamed a dream in one night, I and he; we dreamed each man according to the interpretation of his dream.

41:12 And there was there with us a young man, an Hebrew, servant to the captain of the guard; and we told him, and he interpreted to us our dreams; to each man according to his dream he did interpret.

41:13 And it came to pass, as he interpreted to us, so it was; me he restored unto mine office, and him he hanged.

41:14 ThenPharaohh sent and called Joseph, and they brought him hastily out of the dungeon: and he shaved himself, and changed his raiment, and came in untoPharaohh.

41:15 AndPharaohh said unto Joseph, I have dreamed a dream, and there is none that can interpret it: and I have heard say of thee, that thou canst understand a dream to interpret it.

41:16 And Joseph answeredPharaohh, saying, It is not in me: Elohim shall give Pharaoh an answer of peace.

41:17 AndPharaohh said unto Joseph, In my dream, behold, I stood upon the bank of the river:

41:18 And, behold, there came up out of the river seven kine, fatfleshed and well favored; and they fed in a meadow:

41:19 And, behold, seven other kine came up after them, poor and very ill favored and leanfleshed, such as I never saw in all the land of Egypt for badness:

41:20 And the lean and the ill favored kine did eat up the first seven fat kine:

41:21 And when they had eaten them up, it could not be known that they had eaten them; but they were still ill favored, as at the beginning. So I awoke.

41:22 And I saw in my dream, and, behold, seven ears came up in one stalk, full and good:

41:23 And, behold, seven ears, withered, thin, and blasted with the east wind, sprung up after them:

41:24 And the thin ears devoured the seven good ears: and I told this unto the magicians; but there was none that could declare it to me.

41:25 And Joseph said untoPharaohh, The dream ofPharaohh is one: Elohim hath showedPharaohh what he is about to do.

41:26 The seven good kine are seven years; and the seven good ears are seven years: the dream is one.

41:27 And the seven thin and ill favored kine that came up after them are seven years; and the seven empty ears blasted with the east wind shall be seven years of famine.

41:28 This is the thing which I have spoken untoPharaohh: What Elohim is about to do he showeth untoPharaohh.

41:29 Behold, there come seven years of great plenty throughout all the land of Egypt:

41:30 And there shall arise after them seven years of famine; and all the plenty shall be forgotten in the land of Egypt; and the famine shall consume the land;

41:31 And the plenty shall not be known in the land by reason of that famine following; for it shall be very grievous.

41:32 And for that the dream was doubled untoPharaohh twice; it is because the thing is established by Elohim, and Elohim will shortly bring it to pass.

41:33 Now therefore letPharaohh look out a man discreet and wise, and set him over the land of Egypt.

41:34 LetPharaohh do this, and let him appoint officers over the land, and take up the fifth part of the land of Egypt in the seven plenteous years.

41:35 And let them gather all the food of those good years that come, and lay up corn under the hand ofPharaohh, and let them keep food in the cities.

41:36 And that food shall be for store to the land against the seven years of famine, which shall be in the land of Egypt; that the land perish not through the famine.

41:37 And the thing was good in the eyes ofPharaohh, and in the eyes of all his servants.

41:38 AndPharaohh said unto his servants, Can we find such a one as this is, a man in whom the Spirit of Elohim is?

41:39 AndPharaohh said unto Joseph, Forasmuch as Elohim hath showed thee all this, there is none so discreet and wise as thou art:

41:40 Thou shalt be over my house, and according unto thy word shall all my people be ruled: only in the throne will I be greater than thou.

41:41 AndPharaohh said unto Joseph, See, I have set thee over all the land of Egypt.

41:42 AndPharaohh took off his ring from his hand, and put it upon Joseph's hand, and arrayed him in vestures of fine linen, and put a gold chain about his neck;

41:43 And he made him to ride in the second chariot which he had; and they cried before him, Bow the knee: and he made him ruler over all the land of Egypt.

41:44 AndPharaohh said unto Joseph, I amPharaohh, and without thee shall no man lift up his hand or foot in all the land of Egypt.

41:45 AndPharaohh called Joseph's name Zaphnathpaaneah; and he gave him to wife Asenath the daughter of Potipherah priest of On. And Joseph went out over all the land of Egypt.

41:46 And Joseph was thirty years old when he stood beforePharaohh king of Egypt. And Joseph went out from the presence ofPharaohh, and went throughout all the land of Egypt.

41:47 And in the seven plenteous years the earth brought forth by handfuls.

41:48 And he gathered up all the food of the seven years, which were in the land of Egypt, and laid up the food in the cities: the food of the field, which was round about every city, laid he up in the same.

41:49 And Joseph gathered corn as the sand of the sea, very much, until he left numbering; for it was without number.

41:50 And unto Joseph were born two sons before the years of famine came, which Asenath the daughter of Potipherah priest of On bare unto him.

41:51 And Joseph called the name of the firstborn Manasseh: For Elohim, said he, hath made me forget all my toil, and all my father's house.

41:52 And the name of the second called he Ephraim: For Elohim hath caused me to be fruitful in the land of my affliction.

41:53 And the seven years of plenteousness, that was in the land of Egypt, were ended.

41:54 And the seven years of dearth began to come, according as Joseph had said: and the dearth was in all lands; but in all the land of Egypt there was bread.

41:55 And when all the land of Egypt was famished, the people cried to Pharaoh for bread: andPharaohh said unto all the Egyptians, Go unto Joseph; what he saith to you, do.

41:56 And the famine was over all the face of the earth: and Joseph opened all the storehouses, and sold unto the Egyptians; and the famine waxed sore in the land of Egypt.

41:57 And all countries came into Egypt to Joseph for to buy corn; because that the famine was so sore in all lands.
