Joshua 3

Joshua 3

3:1 And Joshua rose up early in the morning, and departed from Sattin; and they came as far as Jordan, and lodged there before they crossed over.

3:2 And it came to pass after three days, [that] the scribes went through the camp;

3:3 and they charged the people, saying, When ye shall see the ark of the covenant of Yehovah our Elohim, and our priests and the Levites bearing it, ye shall depart from your places, and ye shall go after it.

3:4 But let there be a distance between you and it; ye shall stand as much as two thousand cubits [from it]. Do not draw nigh to it, that ye may know the way which ye are to go; for ye have not gone the way before.

3:5 And Joshua said to the people, Sanctify yourselves against to-morrow, for to-morrow Yehovah will do wonders among you.

3:6 And Joshua said to the priests, Take up the ark of the covenant of the Lord, and go before the people: and the priests took up the ark of the covenant of Yehovah, and went before the people.

3:7 And Yehovah said to Joshua, This day do I begin to exalt thee before all the children of Israel, that they may know that as I was with Moses, so will I also be with thee.

3:8 And now charge the priests that bear the ark of the covenant, saying, As soon as ye shall enter on a part of the water of Jordan, then ye shall stand in Jordan.

3:9 And Joshua said to the children of Israel, Come hither, and hearken to the word of Yehovah our Elohim.

3:10 Hereby ye shall know that the living Elohim [is] among you, and will utterly destroy from before our face the Canaanite, and the Chettite and Pherezite, and the Evite, and the Amorite, and the Gergesite, and the Jebusite.

3:11 Behold, the ark of the covenant of Yehovah of all the earth passes over Jordan.

3:12 Choose for yourselves twelve men of the sons of Israel, one of each tribe.

3:13 And it shall come to pass, when the feet of the priests that bear the ark of the covenant of Yehovah of the whole earth rest in the water of Jordan, the water of Jordan [below] shall fail, and the water coming down from above shall stop.

3:14 And the people removed from their tents to cross over Jordan, and the priests bore the ark of the covenant of Yehovah before the people.

3:15 And when the priests that bore the ark of the covenant of Yehovah entered upon Jordan, and the feet of the priests that bore the ark of the covenant of Yehovah were dipped in part of the water of Jordan; (now Jordan overflowed all its banks about the time of wheat harvest:)

3:16 then the waters that came down from above stopped; there stood one solid heap very far off, as far as the region of Kariathiarim, and the lower part came down to the sea of Araba, the salt sea, till it completely failed; and the people stood opposite Jericho.

3:17 And the priests that bore the ark of the covenant of Yehovah stood on dry land in the midst of Jordan; and all the children of Israel went through on dry land, until all the people had completely gone over Jordan.

3:1 And Joshua rose early in the morning; and they removed from Shittim, and came to Jordan, he and all the children of Israel, and lodged there before they passed over.

3:2 And it came to pass after three days, that the officers went through the host;

3:3 And they commanded the people, saying, When ye see the ark of the covenant of Yehovah your Elohim, and the priests the Levites bearing it, then ye shall remove from your place, and go after it.

3:4 Yet there shall be a space between you and it, about two thousand cubits by measure: come not near unto it, that ye may know the way by which ye must go: for ye have not passed this way heretofore.

3:5 And Joshua said unto the people, Sanctify yourselves: for to morrow the Yehovah will do wonders among you.

3:6 And Joshua spake unto the priests, saying, Take up the ark of the covenant, and pass over before the people. And they took up the ark of the covenant, and went before the people.

3:7 And Yehovah said unto Joshua, This day will I begin to magnify thee in the sight of all Israel, that they may know that, as I was with Moses, so I will be with thee.

3:8 And thou shalt command the priests that bear the ark of the covenant, saying, When ye are come to the brink of the water of Jordan, ye shall stand still in Jordan.

3:9 And Joshua said unto the children of Israel, Come hither, and hear the words of Yehovah your Elohim.

3:10 And Joshua said, Hereby ye shall know that the living Elohim is among you, and that he will without fail drive out from before you the Canaanites, and the Hittites, and the Hivites, and the Perizzites, and the Girgashites, and the Amorites, and the Jebusites.

3:11 Behold, the ark of the covenant of Yehovah of all the earth passeth over before you into Jordan.

3:12 Now therefore take you twelve men out of the tribes of Israel, out of every tribe a man.

3:13 And it shall come to pass, as soon as the soles of the feet of the priests that bear the ark of Yehovah, Yehovah of all the earth, shall rest in the waters of Jordan, that the waters of Jordan shall be cut off from the waters that come down from above; and they shall stand upon an heap.

3:14 And it came to pass, when the people removed from their tents, to pass over Jordan, and the priests bearing the ark of the covenant before the people;

3:15 And as they that bare the ark were come unto Jordan, and the feet of the priests that bare the ark were dipped in the brim of the water, (for Jordan overfloweth all his banks all the time of harvest,)

3:16 That the waters which came down from above stood and rose up upon an heap very far from the city Adam, that is beside Zaretan: and those that came down toward the sea of the plain, even the salt sea, failed, and were cut off: and the people passed over right against Jericho.

3:17 And the priests that bare the ark of the covenant of Yehovah stood firm on dry ground in the midst of Jordan, and all the Israelites passed over on dry ground, until all the people were passed clean over Jordan.
