Judges 13

Judges 13

13:1 And the children of Israel yet again committed iniquity before Yehovah; and Yehovah delivered them into the hand of the Phylistines forty years.

13:2 And there was a man of Saraa, of the family of the kindred of Dan, and his name was Manoe, and his wife was barren, and bore not.

13:3 And an Messenger of Yehovah appeared to the woman, and said to her, Behold, thou art barren and hast not born; yet thou shalt conceive a son.

13:4 And now be very cautious, and drink no wine nor strong drink, and eat no unclean thing;

13:5 for behold, thou art with child, and shalt bring forth a son; and there shall come no razor upon his head, for the child shall be a Nazarite to Elohim from the womb; and he shall begin to save Israel from the hand of the Phylistines.

13:6 And the woman went in, and spoke to her husband, saying, A man of Elohim came to me, and his appearance [was as] of an Messenger of Elohim, very dreadful; and I did not ask him whence he was, and he did not tell me his name.

13:7 And he said to me, Behold, thou art with child, and shalt bring forth a son; and now drink no wine nor strong drink, and eat no unclean thing; for the child shall be holy to Elohim from the womb until the day of his death.

13:8 And Manoe prayed to Yehovah and said, I pray thee, O Lord my lord, [concerning] the man of Elohim whom thou sentest; let him now come to us once more, and teach us what we shall do to the child about to be born.

13:9 And Yehovah heard the voice of Manoe, and the Messenger of Elohim came yet again to the woman; and she sat in the field, and Manoe her husband was not with her.

13:10 And the woman hasted, and ran, and brought word to her husband, and said to him, Behold the man who came in [the other] day to me has appeared to me.

13:11 And Manoe arose and followed his wife, and came to the man, and said to him, Art thou the man that spoke to the woman? and the Messenger said, I [am].

13:12 And Manoe said, Now shall [thy] word come to pass: what shall be the ordering of the child, and our dealings with him?

13:13 And the Messenger of Yehovah said to Manoe, Of all things concerning which I spoke to the woman, she shall beware.

13:14 She shall eat of nothing that comes of the vine yielding wine, and let her not drink wine or strong liquor, and let her not eat anything unclean: all things that I have charged her she shall observe.

13:15 And Manoe said to the Messenger of Yehovah, Let us detain thee here, and prepare before thee a kid of the goats.

13:16 And the Messenger of Yehovah said to Manoe, If thou shouldest detain me, I will not eat of thy bread; and if thou wouldest offer a whole-burnt-offering, to Yehovah thou shalt offer it: for Manoe knew not that he [was] an Messenger of Yehovah.

13:17 And Manoe said to the Messenger of Yehovah, What [is] thy name, that [when] thy word shall come to pass, we may glorify thee?

13:18 And the Messenger of Yehovah said to him, Why dost thou thus ask after my name; whereas it is wonderful?

13:19 And Manoe took a kid of the goats and its meat-offering, and offered it on the rock to Yehovah; and [the Messenger] wrought a distinct work, and Manoe and his wife were looking on.

13:20 And it came to pass when the flame went up above the altar toward heaven, that the Messenger of Yehovah went up in the flame; and Manoe and his wife were looking, and they fell upon their face to the earth.

13:21 And the Messenger appeared no more to Manoe and to his wife: then Manoe knew that this [was] an Messenger of Yehovah.

13:22 And Manoe said to his wife, We shall surely die, because we have seen Elohim.

13:23 But his wife said to him, If Yehovah were pleased to slay us, he would not have received of our hand a whole-burnt-offering and a meat-offering; and he would not have shewn us all these things, neither would he have caused us to hear all these things as at this time.

13:24 And the woman brought forth a son, and she called his name Sampson; and the child grew, and Yehovah blessed him.

13:25 And the Spirit of Yehovah began to go out with him in the camp of Dan, and between Saraa and Esthaol.

13:1 And the children of Israel did evil again in the sight of Yehovah; and Yehovah delivered them into the hand of the Philistines forty years.

13:2 And there was a certain man of Zorah, of the family of the Danites, whose name was Manoah; and his wife was barren, and bare not.

13:3 And the Messenger of Yehovah appeared unto the woman, and said unto her, Behold now, thou art barren, and bearest not: but thou shalt conceive, and bear a son.

13:4 Now therefore beware, I pray thee, and drink not wine nor strong drink, and eat not any unclean thing:

13:5 For, lo, thou shalt conceive, and bear a son; and no razor shall come on his head: for the child shall be a Nazarite unto Elohim from the womb: and he shall begin to deliver Israel out of the hand of the Philistines.

13:6 Then the woman came and told her husband, saying, A man of Elohim came unto me, and his countenance was like the countenance of an Messenger of Elohim, very terrible: but I asked him not whence he was, neither told he me his name:

13:7 But he said unto me, Behold, thou shalt conceive, and bear a son; and now drink no wine nor strong drink, neither eat any unclean thing: for the child shall be a Nazarite to Elohim from the womb to the day of his death.

13:8 Then Manoah intreated Yehovah, and said, O my Lord, let the man of Elohim which thou didst send come again unto us, and teach us what we shall do unto the child that shall be born.

13:9 And Elohim hearkened to the voice of Manoah; and the Messenger of Elohim came again unto the woman as she sat in the field: but Manoah her husband was not with her.

13:10 And the woman made haste, and ran, and showed her husband, and said unto him, Behold, the man hath appeared unto me, that came unto me the other day.

13:11 And Manoah arose, and went after his wife, and came to the man, and said unto him, Art thou the man that spakest unto the woman? And he said, I am.

13:12 And Manoah said, Now let thy words come to pass. How shall we order the child, and how shall we do unto him?

13:13 And the Messenger of Yehovah said unto Manoah, Of all that I said unto the woman let her beware.

13:14 She may not eat of any thing that cometh of the vine, neither let her drink wine or strong drink, nor eat any unclean thing: all that I commanded her let her observe.

13:15 And Manoah said unto the Messenger of Yehovah, I pray thee, let us detain thee, until we shall have made ready a kid for thee.

13:16 And the Messenger of Yehovah said unto Manoah, Though thou detain me, I will not eat of thy bread: and if thou wilt offer a burnt offering, thou must offer it unto Yehovah. For Manoah knew not that he was an Messenger of the Yehovah.

13:17 And Manoah said unto the Messenger of Yehovah, What is thy name, that when thy sayings come to pass we may do thee honor?

13:18 And the Messenger of Yehovah said unto him, Why askest thou thus after my name, seeing it is secret?

13:19 So Manoah took a kid with a meat offering, and offered it upon a rock unto Yehovah: and the Messenger did wonderously; and Manoah and his wife looked on.

13:20 For it came to pass, when the flame went up toward heaven from off the altar, that the Messenger of Yehovah ascended in the flame of the altar. And Manoah and his wife looked on it, and fell on their faces to the ground.

13:21 But the Messenger of Yehovah did no more appear to Manoah and to his wife. Then Manoah knew that he was an Messenger of Yehovah.

13:22 And Manoah said unto his wife, We shall surely die, because we have seen Elohim.

13:23 But his wife said unto him, If Yehovah were pleased to kill us, he would not have received a burnt offering and a meat offering at our hands, neither would he have showed us all these things, nor would as at this time have told us such things as these.

13:24 And the woman bare a son, and called his name Samson: and the child grew, and Yehovah blessed him.

13:25 And the Spirit of Yehovah began to move him at times in the camp of Dan between Zorah and Eshtaol.
